Aerobic digesters require compressed air supplied usually by rotary lobe blowers or centrifugal blowers. The air is used in the process of oxidizing and decomposing the organic part of the sludge in the presence of oxygen.

Liquid ring compressors are used to mix the contents of sewage in large tanks to assist the Anaerobic process to generate methane gas. The gas rises to the top of the tank where it is sent back to the inlet of the compressor to continue the mixing cycle. Typical gas discharge pressures necessary to mix the contents of the tank are 10 to 20 PSI. In many installations where the pressure is less than 15 PSI, gas tight rotary lobe blowers are successfully used when equipped with mechanical seals and vertical gas flow through the blower.
The liquid ring compressors are of stainless steel construction with mechanical seals. During the Anaerobic process excess gas is generated. It may be sent to a flare where it is burned or sent to a gas storage dome for later use in generating power for the wastewater plant.

Digester (methane) gas is stored at about 45 PSI. The methane can be used to power a gas driven generator at the wastewater plant.Liquid ring high pressure gas compressors can be used to pressurize the methane gas for storage. The liquid ring compressor is of stainless steel construction with mechanical seals.
